2019 ABC of DE Diversity and Inclusion Award
Associated Building Contractors (ABC) of Delaware have awarded EHS with the Diversity and Inclusion Award for 2019.
"The ABC National Diversity Excellence Awards recognize members that display exemplary diversity leadership in their company, workforce, supply chain and community with best-in-class recruitment policies, retention practices and training and mentoring programs. " ABC of Delaware, 2019

2018 ASHE First State Project of the Year
EHS was awarded the 2019 ASHE First State Project of the Year award for the completion of repairs to McCoy Road in Bear Delaware. The final construction included a 60-foot long prefabricated truss bridge spanning Dragon Run, helical piles, cast in place concrete abutments and piers with a timber boardwalk over a delineated wetland. EHS completed the contract five percent below contract value and 10 percent less than contract time. The project won the value categories of Commitment to Safety, Cost Performance and Schedule Performance.

2017 Delaware Contractor's Association
Construction Excellence in Historic Preservation Award
EHS was awarded the Delaware Contractor's Association Construction Excellence Award for 2017. The award has multiple categories, with EHS taking home the trophy for excellence in historic preservation. The award-winning project was the rehabilitation of Speakman's Covered Bridge, outside of Coatesville PA. Built in the late 1800s, the bridge is on the National Historic Register. As such, as much of the original timber structure was preserved as possible. EHS teamed up with Lancaster County Timber Framing, building a sound modern structure with the façade and architecture of the original bridge. EHS thanks the Delaware Contractor's Association for their continued support of our work.

Governor's Safety Award
EHS was the recipient of the Governor's Safety Award in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
This award honors those firms emphasizing safety while bringing distinction, skill and integrity to the construction industry. The Governor’s Safety Awards are co-sponsored by the State of Delaware’s Department of Labor and the Delaware Contractors Association.
To be eligible for consideration, companies must have an incident rate at or below the industry average for their business. EHS competes in the category – Heavy/Highway-SIC Code 16.

2015 Workplace Health and Safety Award
The Insurance Commissioner of The State of Delaware commended EHS for 10 years of participation in the Workplace Health and Safety Incentive Program. EHS is committed to providing a safe working environment for all employees.

2014 ASHE Project of the Year Under 2 Million
The American Society of Highway Engineers awarded EHS and its project partner, the Delaware River and Bay Authority, The 2014 Project of the Year Under 2 Million for the completion of the Magazine Ditch Floodgate Replacement. Magazine Ditch encompasses a large drainage area and acts as the primary storm water discharge path for the DRBA’s bridge facility and Route 9 & I-295 interchange. This project was completed under difficult tidal conditions at the outlet of Magazine Ditch into the Delaware River. The job could only be completed during low tide, with a west wind and with no rain having occurred in the previous days. Our crews worked at the times when the conditions were suitable whether it be day or night, weekend or weeknight.

2014 Construction Excellence Award
Eastern Highway Specialists was awarded the 2014 Construction Excellence Award for the work completed on the Augustine Cutoff Bridge over the Brandywine River in Wilmington, DE. The project included repairs to the critical pin and hanger systems that support the bridge, almost all of the supporting steel, and an overlay of the entire deck. EHS' commitment to teamwork, quality, and efficiency led to completion of the project on time and $236,000 under DelDOT's original project budget.

2014 Maryland Quality Initiative Award
Eastern Highway Specialists was recently awarded the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) 2014 Award of Excellence for our I-895 K-Truss Overlay and Bridge repair project in Baltimore, MD. This "quality" award also recognized the difficult timeline in which this project was accomplished. Work on this bridge continued for 24 hours a day for eight weeks. The result was a quality project completed with the minimum disruption to the traveling public. See the Signature Projects tabs for more information and photos of the project.

2012 ASHE Project of the Year Award
EHS was the recipient of the 2012 Project of the Year Award for the replacement of the Washington St. Bridge in Milford, DE. The Award is administered by the Delaware Chapter of the Association for Highway Engineers.

2010 DCA Construction Excellence Award
EHS was awarded the DCA's Construction Excellence Award in 2010 for the refurbishment of bridge 1 and 1A over the Brandywine River in Wilmington, DE. The award is a joint effort of the DCA and the state of Delaware, and recognizes quality and integrity in heavy civil contracting work.
