We are remembering Phil Knox, our General Superintendent for over 17 years, who passed away on January 8th. Phil came to Eastern Highway Specialists on May 17th, 2004, and was instrumental in guiding EHS through the early years of our company existence. Phil’s strong leadership continued from those early years through just days ago when he was struck down with the Covid 19 virus, this despite his full and boosted vaccination status.

Phil Knox’s construction career began when he was just 18 years old and continued for the next 51 years as he progressively moved upward in experience and management skills. This experience is not replaceable. He was strong willed and tough as a construction superintendent needs to be. But he also had a heart of gold and understood his men and their needs and problems. It was this combination that made him a great leader who knew how to let his crews perform at their highest level.

Phil also knew how to have fun and enjoy each day. He started the Annual EHS fishing trip which later developed into our Annual Family Picnic. He and his wife Candy Knox organized this event each year, including this year when EHS celebrated our move to our new headquarters and shop in Wilmington. Phil was very proud of this accomplishment.

Besides his work, Phil loved to go fishing, hunting, his woodwork hobby, family gatherings and visits to relatives in Florida. He was first and foremost a family man. He lived his life for his family. This is a great accomplishment that often goes unrecognized in today’s world.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Phil’s family, his loving wife Candy, children, and grandchildren.

Funeral Services, a viewing followed by a celebration of Phil’s life, will take place Friday, January 14th, 5:00 PM at Strano and Feeley Funeral Home. Anyone attending will be required to wear a medical grade mask.
